Over dit evenement
Autumn, and two months left in the year. Many people wait for January to begin something — but the ones who begin in October arrive at the new year already moving. This is where the handpan players of the Netherlands come to begin.
PAN PEACE — an evening for everyone who loves the handpan
PAN PEACE is a handpan night hosted by Reo Matsumoto, in collaboration with HandPan Studio at NDSM. Part concert, part open stage, part lottery jam — and all of it built around the simple fact that this instrument sounds best in a room full of people who care about it.
This is the very first edition. You do not need to play to come. Bring your ears, take a drink, sit down and listen. And if you do play, there are two ways to get on stage tonight.
Open Stage
Six slots, five minutes each. Write your name on the board when you arrive and the stage is yours — your scale, your piece, your way. Tell us your name and what you are about to play, turn the hourglass, and begin. If you have never played in front of people before, this is the gentlest room you will find for it.
Raffle Jam
Put your name in the box and let chance do the rest. Four groups are drawn across the evening — two duos and two trios — for five minutes of improvisation with players you may have just met. No rehearsal, no plan. It is the part of the night nobody can predict.
Give Away Raffle
Every ticket comes with a raffle ticket, free. Four draws across the evening: palo santo, CDs, a free ticket to one of my workshops, and an ALL IN pack with everything in it.
The concert
I close the night at 21:00 with a full set. After that we stay a while — there is a merchandise and support corner, and plenty of time to talk.

Filming
The evening is filmed on two cameras and the footage may appear on my YouTube channel. Everyone who plays on the Open Stage or in the Raffle Jam gives consent to this when they sign up. If you would rather not be on camera, there is seating at the back of the room that stays out of frame — just ask at the door.

About me
I'm Reo, from Japan, living and playing here in the Netherlands. I won the Japanese Beatbox Championship in 2011, then left home with thirty dollars in my pocket to play on streets around the world. Somewhere on that road I met the handpan and never put it down. Eleven years later I organise the Tokyo Handpan Festival, have taught more than 500 students, and in 2026 I am a guest instructor at Pan Paradise here in Europe.
What I want from a night like this is simple: a place where the people who play this instrument in this country can hear each other.
Supported by
Ayasa Instruments · MAG Instruments · Root Harmonics · Selected HandPan · HandPan Studio · Yishama
I play and teach on instruments from these makers. If you are ever looking for a pan of your own, just ask — I'll tell you honestly what suits your hands.
Any question before booking, just send me a message. I answer them all myself.
