LIMINAL: On Your Toes - Predicament Play for Sadistic Minds with Gestalta

Every movement comes at a cost. Every stillness, a choice. LIMINAL welcomes Gestalta to Amsterdam for an evening dedicated to the craft of predicament play: where the art is not in the suffering, but in the tension.


DESCRIPTION

Predicaments are all about playing with the balance between endurance, threat and impossible decisions. This workshop explores how to create scenes that engage the body and the mind - where every movement comes with a consequence, and the person being tied must constantly choose between effort and surrender.

This is not just about suffering - it's about crafting tension. Expect a mix of technical insight, body mechanics, and creative experimentation.

You'll learn to:
- Construct effective predicaments using minimal rope and structure
- Work with threat versus effort to create psychological and physical tension
- Develop creative ways to layer intensity whilst challenging your partner's balance, endurance, and focus
- Refine techniques for precision in partial suspensions


ABOUT GESTALTA (they/them)

Gestalta (they/them) is a Berlin-based practitioner and teacher with over sixteen years of experience on both sides of the rope, and the founder of Daruma, a dedicated shibari space in Berlin. Their approach rejects rigid prescription in favour of a versatile toolkit, rooted in safety, efficiency, and fluency. Having worked extensively as both rigger and model, and having been tied by accomplished practitioners from Japan and Europe, their teaching is technically precise, calm, and deeply attentive to the full experience of both partners.

PRE-REQUISITES

Riggers should be familiar with using uplines in basic partial suspensions, and should be able to tie basic harnesses fluently.

Models should possess good body awareness, an ability to recognise their individual limits, and a willingness to explore the boundary of this.


WHAT TO BRING

- 4-6 lengths of rope, 7-8 metres (jute or hemp recommended)
- Safety shears
- Comfortable clothing

Till 3 weeks in advance you can opt for a refund with 25% cancellation fee plus 7,50 admin costs.
You can also choose to sell your tickets to someone else (for buying price or lower) however the sell needs to be approved by us, so please send us a message before you sell it. This can be done latest 24h before the start of the event.
