Over dit evenement
Queertied invites you for a playful, welcoming rope hangout where everyone can tinker, tie, tumble, and learn — at their own pace and on their own terms. Whether you like to knot, be knotted, self-tie, or try a bit of everything, this is a space to explore queerness, connection, and silliness with safety and care.
⏱️ Schedule (indication):
• 19:00–19:50 — Stretch & warm-up (optional)
• 20:00 — Peer Rope starts
• 20:15–21:00 — Beginners workshop (optional) & Intermediate workshop (optional)
• 23:00 — End
🎓 About the workshops:
⭐️ Beginner workshop: Single & Double Column Tie
During our monthly beginner workshop you will learn a bit about the history of Japanese bondage and why it is called shibari. We dive into safety aspects like nerve compression and the do’s & don’ts of tying with yourself or somebody else. After we’re done with that, we dive into the practical stuff of how to tie a single-column tie, a double-column tie and the basic principles of frictions. We give individual guidance and there is plenty of room for questions.
Entry level: You don’t need any prior knowledge or equipment. We have rope for lending. If you do have rope, check whether it is natural fibre rope (jute, hemp, bamboo) or synthetic rope emulating natural fibers (hempex) of ca. 6mm and 8 - 10m long.
⭐️⭐️ Intermediate Workshop: Floorwork: hogtie and agura
We hold a bi-monthly intermediate workshop series where we move from harnesses and floorwork to full suspension in five classes. The skills you learn in the first workshop, will be useful in the second, and so on. During the series we will focus both on rigger and bottom skills, and for accessibility purposes the entire series is “TK-optional” – you are welcome to use a TK style harness if you learned it somewhere else, but we will teach alternatives that are safer when just starting out, and are suitable for a wider range of people.
This workshop focuses on intermediate restrictive floorwork with hogties and agura. Both originally meant as tortuous ties, we will go into the safety aspects - including communication between all participants - and some fun variations.
Entry level: This workshop builds on the previous one in the series, and assumes basic, beginners level, of rope (safety) knowledge and skills as well as the ability to tie a solid chest harness (for instance shinju or TK style) of your choice.
🌈 About Queertied
In 2021, during the midst of COVID, Els (they/them) followed online yoga classes by queer yoga teacher Asa (they/them). One day the idea popped up to organise a rope event together to create a safe(r) space for queer individuals of all kinds to explore shibari. Then our partners and a number of amazing volunteers got involved with this journey too. Since November 2021 we have been hosting monthly events and even had the pleasure to teach at numerous festivals.
👥 Organisers & Hosts
• Asa (they/them) & Kai (he/him): teach beginner shibari/kinbaku and a warm-up/stretch class. They reject rigid gender-role stereotypes in rope and encourage playful, non-binary approaches.
• Els (they/them) & Roel (he/him): decades of bondage experience; teach intermediate workshops and adapt techniques for health conditions and disabilities to keep things inclusive.
• Hosts: Sunny (she/her), Venne (all pronouns), Thijs (he/they) — they welcome you, handle tickets, answer questions, and make events comfy.
We’re committed to an inclusive, playful space that celebrates diverse bodies through creative rope play and bondage..

What if I’m new or nervous?
You’re absolutely welcome here — everyone starts somewhere. We create a supportive, nonjudgmental space with clear safety guidelines so you can learn at your own pace. Join the stretching class to relax, try our beginner workshop, or ask our host or organisers to show you basics one-on-one. You can observe first, pair with another newcomer, or practice on yourself until you feel ready. If you’d like, tell our host or an organiser you’re nervous and we’ll check in, offer support, or suggest quieter times and spaces. Your comfort, consent, and boundaries come first — no pressure, no rush.
What should I bring?
Your own ropes and a rescue hook or safety scissors. Clothes you can easily move in; if you're being tied, tight-fitting clothing is advisable. Optional: extra layers/blanket, earplugs, snacks.
What if I don't have any rope?
Loan ropes are available. We also sell rope (€8 for 8m jute rope).
What if I don’t have a partner but still want to practice?
You’re welcome to practice on yourself or observe sessions until someone becomes available. We pride ourselves on the social nature of our events—many participants are quick to engage people who seem a little lonely or lost.
Will you guarantee I’ll find someone to tie with at the event?
No — we can’t guarantee every participant will find a partner. We do our best to create a welcoming, social environment and provide opportunities for meeting others, but pairing depends on individual availability, preferences, and comfort levels.
Are refreshments provided?
Coffee, tea, and soft drinks for sale. Bring snacks if you expect you’ll need a quick energy boost.
Can I join while being tipsy, drunk, high or stoned?
No — please arrive sober. Being under the influence can impair consent, safety, and the experience for others; staff may refuse entry or ask you to leave if you appear intoxicated or pose a risk, and refunds are not guaranteed.
