***Contact Impro ~ MOVING AND BEING MOVED ~ a dive into contact improvisation***
⠀ In motion, on the road together, carrying and being carried, supporting and being supported. 'Reading' our dance. Being present. Moving and being moved.
No matter how small, subtle, soft, large, or acrobatic the movements are, initiating and following become a single listening organism.
We will visit some foundations of contact improvisation. We start from a concrete and physical approach in which we learn to experience and recognize our bone, muscle and connective tissue structure more consciously in our dance. Inevitably, this also takes us along less tangible layers that are moved in us.
Before we know it, we inhabit our unique dance in that moment.
Contact improvisation (CI) has its roots in the early seventies. It is a rich world, a playing field, a laboratory, a poetic universe. A physical basic principle is playing from our movement instinct, opening our movement possibilities while sharing contact and weight with one or more partner(s).
Unlike other partner dances, we do not have fixed steps here, but movement principles, and we do not only remain vertical here, but we move together in all spatial levels, directions, upside down and all around, from and to the floor.
***About Mileen Borgonjon***
⠀ Mileen is a dancer, performer and dance teacher. She feels especially at home in the field of instant performance and is passionate about contact improvisation (CI). CI is a passion for her, a source of inspiration for movement research and a platform to reflect on the greatest ‘encounter’ and improvisation that we call ‘life’.
Her own trajectory as a mover, dancer and performer led her along various masters in ‘instant composition’, and along inspiring movement and somatic methods including Thai yoga massage, Breathwork, Gaga, Ido Portal Method and Playfight.
As a facilitator, Mileen finds it important to create a context in which people can grow in (body) awareness. She loves a profound and at the same time playful approach where people can ‘plug in’ to their movement potential and layered physical, poetic and artistic expression.
***What is Ritual Dance?***
⠀ Ritual Dance is a dance experience where we come together in silence. From the silence we feel into ourselves, make eye contact with another dancer, show ourselves & recognize the other. The music is the invitation to go into spontaneous, free dance.
The concept of Ritual Dance is inspired by Ecstatic Dance and Ritual Play. As we only use body language & sound, we leave words behind. We dance barefoot, only drink water and let ourselves be carried away by the natural flow. There is a demarcated space (the field) and demarcated time (the music), in which we step into the unknown, to authentically follow our impulses in tune with the other.
